The Appointed First Person course teaches the basics of first aid assessment and treatment, so that casualties can be looked after safely until professional emergency care arrives.

What are the entry requirements?
There are no requirements for this course

Who is this course aimed at?
Anyone requiring a basic, one day first aid course.

What will I be doing on the course?
How to summon an ambulance, Scene assessment, the primary & secondary survey. Resuscitation, How to deal with a unconscious patient, ( The recovery position ). Dealing with accidents at and at home. Reporting procedures.

How do I study the course?
Standard way is a one day course, Minimum of 6 contact hours.

What can I do after the course?
Become an Appointed person in the workplace, save lives in general.

Valid for 3 years.

CHANGES FROM 01 OCTOBER 2009

From 01 October a new Health & Safety Executive (HSE) regulated course named Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) will be introduced. While not replacing the Appointed First Person, much of the course content will be the same.

The Training Centre is an HSE accredited centre and therefore will be running this new regulated course for individuals and groups from companies and organisations in Cornwall and across the UK.
