The
surf instructor course from the British Surfing Association
(BSA) is the official qualification required for working as a surf
instructor or surf coach in this country and abroad. The BSA
qualification allows you to seek employment at hundreds of surf schools
in Britain and in countries all over the world. The course covers all
aspects of surf education including surf safety, surfing techniques
and group management. Successful trainees go on to work as surf
instructors or surf coaches, introducing beginners and helping
improvers enjoy wave-riding or take their surfing to the next level.
What are the entry requirements?
Trainees must must demonstrate a good standard of surfing and knowledge of the sport. They must also be able to conduct rescues and administer first aid in emergency situations.

People who want to work as surf instructors or surf coaches, or use the qualification as professional development for a range of careers in the great outdoors.
What will I be doing on the course?
Much of the course focuses on best practices in surf coaching, using a combination of shore based teaching and water instruction. But students must also show strong interpersonal skills that allow them to react to the needs of their own students and perform as part of a team.
How do I study the course?
The course is delivered over three days and can be combined with the standard or intensive beach lifeguard course.
What can I do after the course?
Work as a surf instructor at BSA surf schools in Britain and abroad.
